Who we are

EsperHope is a video game created by Be Peace – Be Hope (“BPBH,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Houston, Texas, with game development by students and teams at Gaming Campus in France. BPBH is responsible for this Privacy Policy and for any personal information described in it.

What this policy covers

This Privacy Policy covers the EsperHope game on the Apple App Store, Google Play, Steam, and itch.io, including test (beta) versions. It does not cover the esperhope.org website, the EsperHope learning hub, solidarity mission map, or ORIAN community, or the Be Peace – Be Hope website, which are not covered by this policy.

Information the game collects

None. EsperHope does not ask players for any personal information, such as their name, email address, age, photos, or location. The game:

App stores and game platforms

When you download EsperHope, Apple, Google, Valve (Steam), or itch.io may collect information about you, such as your account details and download history, under their own privacy policies. We do not receive personal information about players from these platforms.

Beta testing

If you are invited to test an early version of EsperHope through Apple TestFlight or Google Play testing, Apple or Google shares limited information with us to run the test, such as the email address used for the invitation, and any crash reports, screenshots, or feedback you choose to send. We use this information only to run the test and improve the game, and we delete it when the test ends. Children should join a test only with a parent’s or guardian’s permission, using a parent’s or guardian’s email address.

Children’s privacy

EsperHope is intended for players aged 13 and older. Because the game does not collect personal information from anyone who plays it, including children under 13 in the United States and under 15 in France, no personal information about children is gathered through gameplay.

As a nonprofit organization, BPBH may not be legally required to follow the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), but we choose to follow its standards voluntarily. If we ever learn that we have received personal information from a child through the game without a parent’s or guardian’s permission, we will delete it promptly.

Contact us

If you email us about EsperHope, we use your message and email address only to respond to you, and we keep them only as long as needed to do so. Please do not include a child’s personal information in your message.

Your rights, including in the European Union

You can ask us to access, correct, or delete any personal information we hold about you or your child, such as a beta-testing email address or a message you sent us, by emailing info@bepeacebehope.org. We will take reasonable steps to confirm that a request about a child comes from their parent or guardian.

If you are in the European Union, including France, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gives you the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, to restrict or object to its use, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. We use beta-testing information to provide the test you asked to join, and we use messages to respond to you. BPBH is based in the United States, so this information is stored and processed there. When it is transferred from the European Union, we take steps to protect it as required by applicable law. You may also complain to your local data protection authority (in France, the CNIL).

Security

The game does not collect personal information. For the limited information in the Beta testing and Contact us sections, we use reasonable safeguards and limit access to the people who need it.

Changes to this policy

The latest version of this policy is always available at esperhope.org/privacy. If EsperHope changes in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this policy and our store privacy details first. If a future version needs to collect personal information from children, we will get a parent’s or guardian’s permission first.
